The One.
“How did you know you found ‘the one?”
‘I just knew from the beginning, he’s the embodiment of everything I prayed for”
“You’ll just know, because it came with peace.”
And so on, and so on.
It’s one of those questions I love asking my friends, “How did you know you’ve found ‘the one?” and then from their answers I asked another question, and questions, and endless questions. Because to me, it’s a mystery waiting to be uncovered.
Until the One met me.
He didn’t come in peace, like what people say, He came during the time I was shattered to pieces. He came when all I had was nothing. When I can’t speak, and all I have are tears.
He waited patiently, not rushing me to be okay.
Comforted me when all I knew was pain.
Listened to me talk about the same thing over and over again.
Broke his heart, and He still chose to stay.
I tried to run away from him, but he always looked for me and chased me.
”What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
I didn’t meet the one.
He met me.
Jesus met me.
He heard me when I was lying in my bed crying, telling Him to remove all this pain.
He saw me when I made those decisions.
He knew I would run away from him.
He knew I would blame him.
He knew I would choose this world over him.
He knew it time and time again, and yet, he chose to meet me.
Who am I that you are mindful of me, Lord?
“Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.”
You, whose glory is beyond comprehension.
You, whose beauty I longed to gaze at.
You, who founded the world by your wisdom and stretched out the heavens by your understanding.
I am nothing but dust, and yet, your goodness keeps running after me.
Jesus, you are “the One.”
When all else fails, you are “the One” whose promises remain true.
When my strength was running out, you were “the One” who renewed me.
When I thought I reached the end of the road, you are “the One” who opened a path and whose words are a lamp to my feet.
All my life, I thought I needed to perform so they would love me, and yet you are “the One” who loves me and keeps on loving me regardless of who I was.
You saw me and picked me up and never let my hand go.
You carried me, Jesus.
You carried my cross, Jesus.
I’m just a lowly servant, Lord. I am not even deserving of washing your feet.
And yet, you washed mine, with your blood, I was cleaned.
I didn’t meet the one.
Jesus meets me every day.
On my way to work.
When I eat my breakfast
When I hated my lunch.
I didn’t meet the one.
Jesus meets me every day.
When I’m busy and distracted.
When I’m drinking my coffee.
When I’m reading His words.
I didn’t meet the one.
Jesus meets me every day.
In the ordinary.
In the quietness.
In the chaos.
I didn’t meet the one.
The One met me on this side of eternity.
